In larger diameters, SUPRAMID is supplied as a pseudo-monofilament, non-absorbable surgical suture made from polyamide 6.6 — a polymer of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid — with a coating of polyamide 6, a polymer of ε-caprolactam.
Special property The peptide structure of SUPRAMID allows gradual degradation over a longer period in tissue, despite its synthetic origin. Therefore, except for a few specific cases, this suture material is suitable only for skin closure or for tissue that does not require permanent support.
The material is dyed with physiologically harmless colouring agents.
