RESORBA® Barbed Suture

Monofilament, long-term absorbable surgical suture
RESORBA® Barbed Suture is a knotless tissue closure device made of polydioxanone, consisting of barbed, dyed polydioxanone (PDO) suture material, equipped with a surgical needle at one end and a stopper at the other end.
  • TYPES OF PACKAGING:

    needle-thread-combination

  • THREAD DIAMETER:

    USP 4-0 to 1 (1.5-4 metric)

  • COLOUR:

    violet

  • CHEMICAL NAME:

    poly(p-dioxanone)

The barbs on the RESORBA® Barbed Suture are oriented unidirectionally, enabling tissue approximation without the need for surgical knots.

The RESORBA® suture is made from polyester poly(p-dioxanone) and dyed with D&C Violet No. 2.

Although the presence of barbs reduces tensile strength compared to knotless sutures of the same size, knot tying in knotless sutures also reduces their effective strength. Therefore, the tensile strength of the RESORBA® barbed suture is comparable to the knot strength of USP knotless sutures.

After implantation, it retains 55 % of its original tensile strength even after 42 days. Hydrolytic absorption is completed approximately within 180 to 220 days.
